Social Media Do’s and Don’ts

As a Coach, social media can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Here’s a list of super handy tips to keep in mind as you #EndTheTrend on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and beyond.

DO: Post Often.
If you want your friends and fans to remember you exist, you need to post often. Facebook actually penalizes you for being a slacker (meaning you’ll show up LESS in your friend’s and fan’s News Feeds). If you only Tweet once every few days, the chance of someone seeing it is practically zero. So: Post. Often.

We recommend the following:

  • Facebook: 2 to 4 times per day, but try not to post more than once every few hours. It could cost you friends and fans.
  • Twitter: As much as possible. Tweet away! But be original. Don’t be one of those people who Retweet 100 people in a row just so it looks like you Tweet a lot—or you’ll probably lose all your followers.
  • Instagram: If you’re not already on Instagram, get on it! And post 1 to 3 times per day (as long as you have cool photos to share). Be original. Share your life. Show us your craziest post-workout pose.

DON’T: Post Too Much.
How much is too much? That really depends. If you have good content to share (more on that below), 4 Facebook posts in one day is OK. 30 Tweets in one day is OK. But if you’re posting action shots of your cat on the hour, you’re going to lose respect. You’ll probably lose fans and followers. And you might even lose a few friends. This leads me to my next point.

DO: Share Goods.
You’re an interesting person. You’re an expert. You’re a leader. Be all of those things! You don’t always have to talk about Beachbody. Or health and fitness. Share all the good things that make you who you are. Be positive. Be informative. The more you show people your best side, the more people will trust your opinions and recommendations. THIS, my friend, is how you build the ultimate brand: YOU.

Here are some examples:

  • Original advice, tips, and healthy recipes
  • Photos from the best parts of your day
  • Something funny (humor is king)
  • Soft selling (Love P90X! I’m in better shape than I was in high school!)
  • Soft recruiting (If anyone’s interested, we’re starting a group weight loss challenge next week. Let me know!)
  • Motivational/inspirational quotes
  • Success Stories of people you know
  • Personal accomplishments
  • Ask your fans and followers for their input or advice

DON’T: Share Garbage.
This probably seems like a no-brainer. But seriously, don’t share garbage. Or you’ll run the risk of damaging everything you’ve worked so hard to create.

Here are some examples:

  • Long, negative rants about your day
  • Making accusations or starting drama
  • Blatant selling (Buy P90X from me NOW and save $$$!)
  • Blatant recruiting (Join my Challenge Group! Hurry, spots are filling up fast!) 
  • YELLING AT YOUR FANS WITH ALL CAPS!
  • Political commentary
  • Talking about the same thing for days. We get it!

DO: INVITE. INVITE. INVITE.
Social Media can be the best INVITE tool you’ll ever use. But it can also backfire if not used properly. When you’re ready to start inviting your friends, fans, and followers to your Challenge Groups, do so casually. Be yourself. Be personable. Talk about how excited you are about your weight loss, or how much a friend lost, and that you’re starting a new group soon “if anybody’s ready to commit.” When you get a response, follow up privately with the details—rather than making a scene for everyone to see.

Just say something like, “Awesome! I’ll shoot you a message or we can get on the phone tonight. You’re going to love/hate Shaun T!” The positive commentary and feedback can potentially snowball into more comments and interest. Have fun with it!

DON’T: Be a SPAM Artist.
There’s no faster way to lose followers/customers than to push product, Challenge Groups, and coaching like a used car salesman at the end of the month. Just thinking of it like dating. Linking to your Coach site or other place to “sign up” is coming on too strong. And if you keep doing it, it’ll get creepy.

Here are some things to avoid:

  • Posting blatant ads about your business
  • Asking your followers to “CLICK HERE” to buy or sign up
  • Making every post about Beachbody
  • Soliciting products or coaching on someone else’s post or page
  • Talking trash on competitor’s pages

DO: “Like” us, Follow us, Join us in Social Media!
No garbage, we promise! By plugging into our social media pages, you’ll get instant access to all our key business updates, breaking news, shareable Success Stories and special offers, LIVE event coverage, behind-the-scenes footage, inside jokes, and more. You’ll also be able to chat with us directly, ask questions, and share you and your teammate’s accomplishments with us.

Here’s where you can find us:

Don’t: Be Elusive
Finally, show friends and fans you’re there for them. When someone leaves you a comment or sends a Tweet, let them know you got it with a quick response—rather than waiting for days. It just says they’re important to you. Not only that, but the more you interact, the more visible you are (more people will see your Facebook posts and Tweets).

Here are 3 quick tips for responding:

  • Mind Your Peeps – The fact is, people want to be heard. Otherwise, they wouldn’t leave a comment or send you a Tweet. Responding lets them know you care. Ignoring them, well that’s just a really bad idea.
  • Mono e Mono – Just because your response it too long or complicated to explain on Facebook/Twitter doesn’t mean you should give up. Send them a Direct Message (DM). It’s a nice personal touch and shows you’re willing to go the extra mile.
  • Show some love – “Liking’ a comment or post, or retweeting a Tweet does wonders for relationship building. It shows you’re paying attention, engaged, and actually like what that person has to say. Just don’t overdo it. Only “Like” what you actually like!

SUCCESS STORY: Alli Vaughn

My secret weapon is my ‘why’.

Alli hit rock bottom in 2010. She was broke, confused and the verge of homelessness.

“Between my student loans, credit card bills and my car, I was $100,000 in debt,” says Alli. On top of her personal debt, Alli’s family was in financial ruins. “Mom and Dad didn’t even have enough money to file for bankruptcy.” To avoid being homeless, Alli lived with friends for over a year.

Finding a job wasn’t her problem. In fact, she was working 5 jobs simultaneously but still couldn’t break free from debt. Even after signing up as a Team Beachbody Coach (her fifth job), she didn’t find success right away.

Let Your Why Set You Free

It wasn’t until Alli discovered her ‘Why’, that she was able to rise above the chaos and reap the rewards. That process took her three and a half years.

“With the help of Beachbody Regional Sales Director, Jeremy Redd, I finally learned that your WHY has to make tears come of our your eyes. You have to be that passionate about it.”

Alli realized that she had a two-part ‘Why’. To help her family rise out of debt and despair—and to help everyone else after that. Her true WHY was helping others. And help she did.

As the proud Coach, or as Alli proudly calls it “mama” of the 2011 Million Dollar Body Game Winner Meghan Kehoe, Alli has seen the power of Beachbody at it’s best.

“I’ve got to do something for people like Meghan who are killing themselves every single day,” says Alli. Meghan lost over 109 pounds in a year and was the winner of Team Beachbody’s $25,000 prize. Alli and her ‘Why’ were the driving force behind Meghan’s transformation—and that is truly what Alli lives to do.

Just Do It: The only way to fail is to quit

After Alli discovered her ‘Why’, she had to overcome her greatest fear—the unknown.

“I wanted to learn every single thing that I possibly could before I talked to anyone.” Which is why Alli didn’t do a lot of talking. For a long time. It wasn’t until she let go of her worries and just started doing, that she started to succeed.

“You can’t wait until you know everything to leap into this business, or you will be paralyzed forever. The most important thing you can do is remind yourself the only way to fail is to quit. I never did,” says Alli. “When I started my first Challenge Group, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. But, I started one anyway.”

Once Alli got started, there was no stopping her.

Facebook + Challenge Groups = $$$

Challenge Packs changed the very nature of Alli’s business. Mixed with the power of social media, it has propelled her to the top.

“Challenge Packs have been the game changer for my team and I. I think I’ve sold about 35 since we started. They simplify everything, because when people talk about their goals and that they need your help, all you have say is “Great! I have a Challenge Group starting in two weeks.”

Asking the right questions is also critical, according to Alli. What does your prospect need? What do they need this group for? What can they not do on their own? “You have to get that out of them before you can talk to them about a Challenge Group.”

After Alli identifies why her customers need a Challenge Group, she gets down to business. She conducts almost all of her business on Facebook, so promoting her Challenge Groups is done with the click of a mouse. Wherever she meets people, she INVITES them to connect on Facebook, instantly. The immediate outreach ensures that the prospect isn’t lost and that the customer can tap into Beachbody right away.

Debt-Free and Diamond

Alli has used her determination, her ‘Why’, Challenge Packs and Social Media to create an unstoppable rhythm. She is completely debt-free and has recently become a 5 Star Diamond Coach.

“Ten months ago when Challenge packs started, my weekly paycheck was about $592. Now I make over $2,000 a week.” Her next big goal? She wants to be a 15 Star Diamond with five Five Star Diamonds on her team before Summit 2013. “I love teaching what I’ve learned and this is how I pay it forward.”

Coach’s Playbook:

  • Don’t wait until you know everything to jump into this business. Get started NOW—the rest will fall into place.
  • It’s critical to ask the right questions. Find out what people can’t do on their own and help them uncover their own WHY. Taping into that emotional edge gets people engaged and keeps them inspired.
  • Instead of asking for business cards; ask “Are you on Facebook?”
    ‘Friend’ people from your phone and ensure that your connection is secured instantly.
  • Help others; help yourself. The best way to help improve yourself is to help others achieve their goals. Never forget your WHY and remind yourself every day of what you are trying to achieve.

When does the new program start?

Where can I see the new report?
We’ve made this super easy. The new Coach Online Office screen (launching November 1st) will make it simpler to understand and review your qualification status for all three Beachbody Lead Programs. Here’s all you need to do:

  • Log in to your Coach Online Office.
  • Click on “My Business.”
  • Go to “My Qualification Reports.”
  • Click on “Lead Program Qualification.”

What do I do if I have a problem?
We have a new Coach Relations Transition Team in place to help you with any concerns or launch issues. Here are the simple steps you should take:

  • First, check your qualification on Nov. 1st in the Coach Online Office.
  • If you’re having an issue, call Coach Relations at 1-800-240-0913 and a representative will transfer you directly to a member of our dedicated Transition Team.
  • You must report all October issues to Coach Relations by Monday, November 5th. If validated and approved, all reports received by this date will be eligible for lead replacement. (Unfortunately, reports received after November 5th will NOT be eligible).
