From struggling to share his story in front of 8 people at his first local event, to inspiring thousands from the Summit stage a year later, 5 Star Diamond and father of four Scottie Hobbs is a Coach who knows how to dream big, then hit the ground running. We sat down with him to chat about his personal Summit experience and why every single Coach needs to be there—and in this case, why it’s a good thing that what happens in Vegas most definitely doesn’t stay there.

Why should Coaches at all levels attend Summit?

I genuinely believe that Coaches will be paid back 10X what they invest in going to Summit. And then some. This event is an absolute must for Coaches, no matter what level they’re at. It’s the ultimate business building and learning event of the year, and a critical opportunity for Coaches to learn from our most successful Coaches and renowned personal development experts.

Newer Coaches may be asking themselves, “is Summit for me?”

It’s the perfect way for new Coaches to learn from others  Even if you have only been a Coach for 1 month, I would say ‘DO NOT miss Summit!’ Do whatever it takes to get there.  Attend the meetings, ask questions, learn, and then go home and APPLY what you have learned to your Coach business, every day. If you do that, one year from now, YOU will be the one teaching others.   The investment will be worth it.

Speaking of, how would you describe the event to someone who hasn’t experienced it yet?

Summit = awesome! It’s a combination of training, celebration, relationship- building, mixed together with some serious fun! Quite simply, it’s the most important and effective Coach business-building event of the year.

Why do you think Summit is such an inspiring experience?

I think it’s because you get back to the HEART of our core purpose.  I love hearing success stories, and celebrating people’s life changes there. It’s so inspiring to me because I envision what it would be like to have one of my friends on stage winning that award—knowing that I gave them that opportunity, and that I was courageous enough to invite them to live a healthier life. It was a feeling that I was a part of something so much bigger than myself.

Share your thoughts on why attending Summit is so beneficial for a Coach’s business—and why it’s such an important investment to make?

At Summit, everyone is so willing to share what they’ve done to achieve their success.  I have no doubt that every Coach will come back from Summit with an undeniable passion for Beachbody, and greater ability to truly help change lives.

Why is Summit the most important personal development opportunity of the year?

Summit is, without a doubt, the most beneficial personal development event of the year because all the meetings and trainings are specifically designed to help you grow and become better at what you do.  You have the opportunity to network and meet Coaches who have achieved what you are striving to achieve—it really helps you believe in yourself. When I attended Summit and saw all the Star Diamonds on stage, I said ‘why not me?’ I genuinely believed that if they could do it, so could I.

What was your biggest ‘Aha!’ moment at Summit?

My biggest “aha!” moment at Summit was when I saw the top 10 Coaches receive their awards.  I sat down in the audience and said ‘why not me?’  They are no different than me.  I CAN DO THIS!

How many Coaches in your own downline have registered for Summit this year?

Right now, we have around 150 coaches registered for Summit, and we plan to continue to encourage and find ways for more Coaches to attend because it’s so important they’re there. We’ll be there as a team and a family to celebrate success, to learn, and to strengthen and grow our relationships.

As a leader, how do you rally your downline to register for Summit?

Summit and achieving Success Club are two things we talk about in every single one of our weekly team calls. We have a different Coach run the team call each week, so our entire team hears every single coach mention Summit at some point.

Any rally tips to share with other Leaders?

Start with WHY. Share why YOU are going, and create that energy by sharing stories about your own Summit experiences and stories. Talk about it in a way that is motivational and inspirational.  For example, say something like “ We can’t wait to hang out with you all at Summit!” We let new Coaches know that they can split rooms, and that creating a memorable experience should be a part of their story.  Paint that vision for them!  For example, “Joe, it’s crazy how this year you’ll be sharing a room with 6 other people, sleeping on the floor—but how awesome will it be for you to share that as part of your story when they celebrate your success next year!”

What are you most excited about seeing this year at Summit 2013 in Las Vegas?

I can’t name just one thing! We’re pumped up for the whole atmosphere, and having the opportunity to surround ourselves with passionate like-minded people. The training will be better than ever, but it’s that feeling of just being there I’m most excited about.  After Summit, I’ll be taking that passion home with me so I can take my business to the next level. Can’t wait for June!

Hiram Santisteban: Attitude is Everything

Ever since Hiram Santisteban could remember, he had been happily doing things for others, whether it was supporting his family as a hobo clown in the circus, or making others laugh with his indelible sense of humor. As a Diamond Coach, helping others has allowed Hiram to stay focused—and far from the 432 pounds that kept him from living the life he now loves.

It was something that his grandfather said to him as a child that has truly shaped his destiny and his role as a Coach, “Learn everything you can, then give it away for free.”

We only have what we give

That mantra has guided Hiram to achieve two Bachelors degrees, two Masters and a PhD. While Hiram acknowledges that being a Coach can be a lucrative business, he feels his main priority is to give away the knowledge he has as a Coach. The knowledge that helped him change his life. So what are some of Hiram’s pearls of wisdom that he freely shares?

Get a pen.

Attitude is key

“In my humble option, the attitude you have is the #1 thing that will determine the quality of your life and your career as a Team Beachbody Coach,” he says. How do you over come challenges and succeed? Attitude. Number one is your attitude. I always tell my new Coaches, and everyone else, that whatever it is your doing, you have to have a positive and focused mind to get results.”

But a great attitude was just one part of Hiram’s success.

Know your “Why”

What’s it going to take to get you to commit? Your “why” has to be so uncomfortable that you can’t stand the thought of it. Hiram’s “why” came the day he watched a young father, overweight and out of breath, unable to keep up with his small child. At 432 lbs, Hiram was so unhealthy—and unhappy—the idea of having children seemed impossible. “My ‘why’ is very simple and two-pronged – to help others and help myself from never returning to 432 pounds and to be able to spend time with my children. Both of those things are possible with Beachbody.”

And that’s the “why” that truly changed his life.

Find a mentor & stay humble

Hiram believes that it’s important to get a fresh perspective about your life, your goals, and the vision you have for your future. “I chose 4 mentors from different areas of my life that I wanted to improve on,” he says. “It’s important to learn from others, and that takes a certain amount of humility—which is key. Be humble and willing to learn because every moment is a teachable moment,” he says. “Never allow your ego to get bigger than your bank account… or bigger than your goals,” Hiram adds.

Help yourself

“Coaches can help themselves. Unfortunately, my sponsor coach was not really there for me. So I reached out to other Beachbody Coaches and helped find things for myself. I used the tools that were provided in the Coach Online Office, as well as the weekly (Coach) phone calls to improve. I bucked up. I developed a strategy. I used the resources that were provided to me and I plugged in. If you really want to succeed, you’ve got to plug in. You have to be part of the movement.”

So, how did Hiram help himself and lose over 233 lbs?

A total transformation

“I never gave up, even when there were days I just wanted to quit so badly. I was never going back to the way I was,” he says. “Beachbody has made be a better person in so many ways. I don’t have family in the United States, and Beachbody has become my family. It’s so good to have someone you can count on. I have Beachbody friends that I love like brothers and sisters. Even if they aren’t on my Team, we still encourage each other and are always there for each other. We are family.”

After losing 233 lbs, Hiram won the 2012 Body Transformation Award for his incredible achievement.

“After going through my own personal transformation, I felt a need to share what I’ve learned. For me, Coaching is a responsibility to help others,” he says.

So what’s next for Hiram?

“If we’re going to put an end to obesity, then the movement has to be bigger. Beachbody is just a part of the conversation. It’s about nutrition, health, fitness, exercise and superfoods,” he says. “It’s about having a different perspective on life. And that bigger conversation starts with me and my Team. It starts will all of us doing our part, little by little, day after day.”

Coach’s Playbook:

  • Be humble. The harder you work, the luckier you get but, don’t let that change who you are and where you came from.
  • Stay positive. Nothing will affect your business more than your attitude.
  • Don’t sell, educate. Share your knowledge, story and journey with others. That will lead to honest sales and new Coaches.
  • Surround yourself with people who inspire you. Find mentors and swap stories and tips on how to succeed.

Debbie Siebers: Empower Your Life

• What are your top motivational tips for fitness and life in general?

When it comes to fitness, having a goal is essential to keep you on track. Once you have a goal in mind, it’s important to be consistent. Consistency is what will drive your results. Stick to it and you’ll see the fat melt away.

When I started out as a trainer I wasn’t as toned as I am today. Not at all. At the time I was training Motown music legend, Berry Gordy’s wife. Berry told me that if I wanted to be successful in life I needed to “walk the talk.” How could I teach fitness if I wasn’t as fit as I could be? That advice changed my life. I’ve tried to “walk the talk” ever since.

• Who do you admire?

I think Kathy Smith and Jane Fonda are two women who’ve been “walking the talk” for decades—and look at them. They give new meaning to aging gracefully. Both Kathy and Jane have demonstrated the importance of maintaining cardio and a balanced diet as we age. Just look at them, they’re both in phenomenal shape at 61 and 75. What’s not to admire?

• Who inspires you?

That’s easy. Carl Daikeler. Carl’s passion and tenacity are awe-inspiring. Just look at what he’s done for hundreds of thousands of people who’ve been searching for healthier lifestyles. He jump-started the trend to end obesity in this country!

• How would you pitch Slim in 6 to a stranger in an elevator?

I do it all the time.  I tell people who ask that it’s a 6-week commitment that’s structured from a beginning level to an advanced level, a full-body workout that really builds your endurance. It’s designed to target every muscle group—shrinking, reducing, and tightening while burning away fat. 

• Speaking of goals, what’s your big goal for 2013?

I have two goals this year. The first is to get back to my roots. I’m teaching a class at a gym here in Los Angeles called Boulevard. I absolutely love leading a class and watching people personally transform their bodies. The second goal I have is becoming a mentor. I’ll be working with a 7th grade girl—and I’m really looking forward to showing her around Beachbody®. I think it’s essential to show young kids the importance of a healthy lifestyle. I’m looking forward to empowering others.

• What personal development book are you currently reading?

I’m reading Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks. I think it’s important to keep educating and motivating oneself. I try and surround myself with positive people who understand the importance of “staying in the moment.” I think it’s important to learn from our past, look forward to the future, but live in the present. It’s a key component to staying consistent, which as I mentioned, earlier drives results. 

• What is the ONE THING that sets Slim in 6 apart?

It can truly get you fit and toned in just 6 weeks. If you make that 6-week commitment, the program will target every muscle group and will bring you from a beginner level to an advanced-level workout, all while burning fat and building your endurance.

You can’t imagine the struggles…and the transformations that people achieve. It’s thrilling to see people triumph—and change their lives for the better. The events are amazing, too. The cocktail parties are fun, and the award ceremonies are so exciting. It’s really a must-see and do event for every Coach.

Shakeology Opportunity Month

When we launched the Healthiest Meal of the Day four years ago, we priced it just right—so it was a good value your customers, yet profitable for you (our Coaches!). The $119.95 price tag was based on extensive analysis of market conditions sourcing and logistics forecasts, and a whole bunch of other variables our accountants like to talk about.

And for all these years, we never budged. Not when the costs of gas and shipping skyrocketed. Not when the costs of whey and other key ingredients kept creeping upward. Definitely not when outside analysts and others told us we were crazy. Maybe we are, but we did everything we could to keep prices the same and continue to provide FREE shipping on your Home Direct (HD) orders.

Unfortunately, this is one battle we can’t fight forever. We were forced to make a tough decision: Lose the FREE shipping guarantee and potentially move to cheaper ingredients OR raise the price of Chocolate (regular) and Greenberry by a mere $10/month (33 cents/day)? Considering we’ll never sacrifice the integrity of our ingredients, the choice was clear.
