5 Places to Meet New Customers – Summer Edition!

Need some inspiration for approaching new customers this summer? We’ve got you covered! How you invite might be the same, but where you invite can be very different depending on the season. Use the 3 Vital Behaviors as your guide and turn your fun summertime activities into the perfect invite opportunity. So slap on some sunscreen, get out there—and invite, invite, invite!

1. In the Airport… Trains, Planes & Automobiles
An activity hub like the airport is excellent for striking up a chat! It’s a place where people naturally congregate and have time to chat, and it’s one of the best chances you have to approach someone casually. Everyone is looking for a way to pass the time, or make small talk. If your flight is delayed…even better. Make use of that time to work your Coaching magic!

  • Good to know: Keep in mind that an airplane is perfect setting, as you are dealing with a captive audience. The pressure eases off, you have more time, it’s a good place to start a conversation. So don’t let fear get in your way. Sit back, relax, and share your story.

2. Sporting Events (Kids Soccer games, swim meets, etc).
Heads up, hockey moms! This is hands down, one of the best opportunities you will have to get someone on board and introduce them to Shakeology®. Moms and Dads will already be pumped about their kids competing, and receptive about ideas to improve their entire families health, fitness and nutrition.

  • Good to know: Why not bring your own batch of Shakeology® samples for people to try? If you’re in charge of post games snacks, make each kid a mini-vanilla Shakeology! Once they taste it, they’ll be hooked and you will be their go-to-gal (or guy) to order more. Which means you’ll be helping to end the trend, and rake in the residuals.

3. At the Beach & Poolside
Where better to introduce someone to a new health and fitness revolution then when they are laid back, soaking up the rays and baring it all for the world to see. Chat up your lounge chair neighbor and ask what kind of exercise they prefer. Get the conversation started. Being proof the products work doesn’t hurt either!

  • Good to know: Once you strike up a conversation, talk about all the “beach time” Team Beachbody has given you. Maybe it was going to the Bahamas on the 2012 Success Club Trip, or perhaps being a Coach simply allows you more time in the summer to be with your family. Whatever your story is – share it!

4. Farmers Markets
These are your people! They shop organically, are probably already more conscientious about their health and wellbeing, love being outdoors and active. They most likely are also local, which is handy, but as you know not mandatory.

  • Good to know: There’s a casual chat waiting to happen alongside every fruit &veg vendor, or natural smoothie counter. The sky’s the limit as far as conversation starters are concerned, we’re talking weight loss, celeb fitness trainer Shaun T, healthy ingredients and Shakeology®. All of these topics can be addressed at the Farmers Market, so get shopping and get creative!

5. During Outdoor Concerts & BBQS (the 4th of July is coming).
It’s summer. You’re outside. And for the most part, people are happy. This is the trifecta of invite opportunities! Take this celebratory atmosphere as a chance to spread the word about all that Team Beachbody has to offer! Sure, we’re all entitled to a day of indulgence now and then, but let your potential new customer know that it doesn’t have to become a lifestyle. Share the benefits of a Challenge Group and if you have one starting, invite them to join! That daily motivation may be just what they needed to achieve their health and fitness goals. Not only that, the Challenge Pack sales you can generate with your Challenge Group will kick-start your earnings right away.

  • Good to know: You could even host your own Summer Team Beachbody BBQ! Invite potential prospects over and fire up the grill. Serve Shakeology® as a refreshing treat, put out some recent photos from Summit, and get ready for the questions to roll in. Don’t force anything, but let your Team Beachbody lifestyle shine through. Before you know it – you’ll have new Coaches and customers signing up!

Old Friends, New Diamonds

They lit up the stage in matching silver, metallic disco shirts. The self-named Chocolate Diamonds, One Star Diamond Coach Ken Peavie and Diamond Coach John Rivers, got the crowd jiving on the Beachbody’s Got Talent stage at Coach Summit 2013 with a heartfelt rendition of “Celebration!”

But this duo was entertaining crowds long before the 2013 Summit talent show. In fact, before their Beachbody Coaching days, John and Ken were jamming out tunes for the Armed Forces—30 years ago!

In 1983, The Chocolate Diamonds became fast friends while training at the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk Virginia. After Marines prep, life took them on different journeys, separating them—until Coach Summit 2012.

Just like yesterday
“When we were reunited at Summit last year, it felt just like yesterday,” John reminisces with a chuckle. “Time is a funny thing.” He continues, “Even though it had been almost 30 years, it was like we were still 19 years old again.”

Now, Ken lives with his wife in Virginia Beach where he works for Verizon Fios in IT support. Meanwhile hundreds of miles away in Canton, Ohio, John and his wife, Beth, are band directors. Over the years, they stayed in touch via sporadic Christmas card updates and eventually via Facebook.

The social connection
So how exactly did Beachbody bring these two lifelong pals together?

Ken’s Beachbody journey began in 2009 after he was egged on by a younger brother’s inspiring results from P90X. Soon enough, Ken lost 30 lbs, became a Team Beachbody Coach, and started publishing his results to Facebook.

Intrigued by Ken’s posts, John, and wife Beth, decided to do 10 Minute Trainer – which quickly turned into a Shakeology obsession, too.

They were hooked.

In February 2012, John and his wife became Coaches under Ken. And last year, John went to his first Summit where he was reunited face-to-face with Ken for the first time in three decades—all because of Beachbody.

The tag team effect
Since then, Ken and John have combined their powers. While they each run successful, separate businesses, they tag-team for each other when needed.

For example, during Super Saturday in April 2013, Ken helped John by mentoring one of John’s new Coaches who just happened to live in his neighborhood.

“I knew Ken would introduce her to the Coaching community in Virginia Beach,” John explains. “He knew the strength of Super Saturday and he made her feel comfortable right away.”

Don’t reinvent the wheel
They continued to collaborate when John started a few Challenge Groups and Ken shadowed, offering feedback and commenting on posts or answering members’ questions. “It was an honor for me to be invited to John’s group,” says Ken.

John pipes up saying, “Ken gave us a good example. Beth and I don’t reinvent the wheel. Instead, we emulate the successful things he’s doing.”

Ken’s ‘successful things’ start with social media. He uses Facebook messages to quickly connect with folks, but doesn’t stop there. Ken’s Team is scattered across the country and he realizes not everyone is on Facebook. So he posts daily quotes and fitness tips from trainers to LinkedIn and Google Plus as well.

While Ken runs much of his business digitally, he taught John the importance of promoting Beachbody’s brands in person, too. “Every day I go to work, I make sure I’m wearing something with our logos on it,” says Ken. “I’m wearing a P90X shirt in my employee picture too, so whenever that photo is used I’m promoting health and fitness.”

No right or wrong way
Ken also helped out when John and his wife first started their business. “Ken taught us that there was no right way or wrong way. Just find the way that works for us,” says John.

Ken chimes in saying, “In order for Coaching to work for anybody, it has to fit into their current schedule. So slow down and do whatever you need to do.”

And over the past year, through teamwork and collaboration The Chocolate Diamonds have found their Coaching sweet spot. They made Team Beachbody bigger than selling fitness products. They made it about helping others and learning from each other in the process.

“It’s not about the money,” says John. “It’s about when somebody sends you a letter or an email that says ‘You helped me turn my life around.’ Those are the things money can’t buy.”

Coach’s Playbook:

  • Slow Down and Take Your Time: Figure out what you need to do to make the magic happen. Don’t rush it.
  • Represent Team Beachbody: You’re a brand ambassador wherever you go. You never know where you’ll find your next customer. Be proof the product works!
  • Don’t Try to Reinvent the Wheel: Use the tools and systems readily available to you and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  • Find a Success Partner: Odds are there are other Coaches willing to help and collaborate with you. See who you can connect with, share ideas, be a Team player.

Coaching at Any Age

The saying goes, “with age comes wisdom,” but if you’re a Team Beachbody Coach, there’s wisdom to be learned from every age. Whether you’re 20 or 70, or anywhere in between, you can defy challenges and embrace the opportunities in front of you.

Read how these Coaches manage their time – and their businesses – at all different stages of life.

Jessie Perry, 20, Mentor, Ohio
Emerald Coach, 1 year and a half

As a senior at Ashland University and lead fitness instructor at her gym (she’s certified in Turbo Kick, Hip Hop Hustle, PiYo Strength and INSANITY) Jessie uses her fitness classes and peer network to grow her business.

She’s found most college students are lost when it comes to proper nutrition and exercise. “What’s awesome about Coaching in college is that many Beachbody programs don’t need equipment or a lot of time,” says Jessie. “They can be done in a small dorm room and between classes, so it’s easy for me to pitch solutions to excuses.” Shakeology? She views it as a great supplement to a limited meal plan on campus.  But her peers can be hesitant when it comes to cost. To that, Jessie suggests buying one less beer at the bar. “If you want to do it, you can make it work,” she explains. “We are young, we are the future, so let’s make it a healthy one.”

Lindsay Krause, 25, Watertown, South Dakota
6 Star Diamond Coach, 2 years

In her mid 20s, newlywed Lindsay builds her business by meeting peers online. Knowing her generation wants instant results, she uses Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to beat the “microwave mentality.” She targets college graduates swamped with debt, new home owners with mortgages, and folks trying to get back in shape after adopting less-than healthy habits during high school or college.

On her social media sites, Lindsay pitches Beachbody products and programs as the solution. “Our 20s is when we start building a prosperous and healthy lifestyle that we can model for our future families,” she says.

Holly Hierman, 34, Mission Viejo, CA
7 Star Diamond Coach, 5 years

Expecting her first child in December, Holly, 34, is ramping up her business to prepare for major life changes. But with five years of Team Beachbody experience, she feels calmer and more confident than ever. To avoid feeling stuck in the daily grind of a full-time job, Holly advises scheduling early morning workouts and getting on Beachbody calls during commutes.

“In this business, time brings maturity and wisdom,” says Holly. “I think anyone, no matter what age, will gain that experience if they work their business consistently for a long period of time.”

Mark Briggs, 43, Tolono, Illinois
9 Star Diamond Coach, Founding Beachbody Coach and cast member of P90X, 7.5 years

At 43, Mark believes age is just a number.

“I’ll be the 90 year old guy out on the beach doing pull-ups until the day I die,” he exclaims. Being fit and wearing P90X, Insanity, or Body Beast T-Shirts, makes his peers curious. “The door opens and I walk right in,” says Mark.

His fitness advice to Coaches his age? Listen to your body and make it a family affair. Mark has two kids and three step kids so he and his wife (also a Coach) make fitness and nutrition a priority. In addition, Shakeology is a staple in their diets and he incorporates yoga into his workouts to fight off aging aches and pains.

Michelle Bockhorn, 46, Appleton, Wisconson
4 Star Diamond Coach, almost 2 years

Michelle doesn’t feel 46. Most likely because she teaches Turbo Kick and has lost 55 pounds since she started using Beachbody products in 2004! As a mom and Real Estate broker, she has plenty of business opportunities to invite like charity dinners, networking events, women’s groups and school functions.

When people find out her age, they are always surprised. She explains, “I had to fight to reclaim my level of fitness, so it gives me an immediate connection with moms in their 30’s and 40’s.” To achieve your goals, Michelle advises it’s all about being positive, staying consistent, and achieving balance.

Fran Patoskie, 54 “years young!,” Honolulu, Hawaii
10 Star Diamond, 5 years

Fran speaks from her own life experiences to genuinely connect with folks her age. “I recommend Tai Cheng and explain how it helped with my arthritis, or relay how Shakeology helped with my hot flashes,” she explains.

Her customers are in their 40s and 50s and can relate to her health issues.

But sometimes doubt creeps in and she wonders if she’s too old to Coach. Over time she’s discovered the perks trump her doubts.  She says there is nothing better than hearing she has inspired someone her age to take better care of themselves.

Adele Brezina, 61, Fort Worth, Texas
2 Star Diamond Coach, 10 months

“At my age I’ve had more time for things to go wrong and fix them. So when someone tells me their problems, chances are, I can help,” explains Adele, great grandmother to three and grandmother to 15.

After only nine months as a Coach, she went from feeling “old, sick and a little useless” to “vibrant, vital, and making a difference in people’s lives.”

Adele quickly grew her Team by being a “joiner.” Everywhere, from Church to the grocery store, Adele meets people with similar interests, joins their groups and shares her story. She recently told her new public speaking group, “Beachbody has given me the gift of youthful purpose!”

And the Cup Goes to…

It’s no secret that in Los Angeles, celebrities are treated like royalty.

And the latest to get the L.A. star treatment? 2013 Team Beachbody® Cup winners “Fit & Fabulous”. These five determined Coaches were flown in all the way from Puerto Rico to bask in the glory of their hard-fought win.

After all, hoisting the coveted cup is no small feat.

Flash bulbs popping. People cheering. Beachbody gave its best blue-carpet welcome to Marangelie Rodriguez, Erik Carpintero, Edlyn Vazquez, Mayleen Acosta, and, of course, their tenacious Team Captain, Claudia Lopez.

“This trip has been more than we could imagine,” says Claudia. “From the moment we entered Beachbody headquarters in Santa Monica, it was a V.I.P experience all the way. It was so emotional to see everyone cheering for us.”

The key to victory
What’s the key to victory in the Team Beachbody cup? Claudia breaks it down in two words: Hard work!

Simple, but true.

The Team Beachbody Cup is a four-week contest where thousands of Coaches go all out to push their business practices to the max. In addition, it challenges Coaches to drive up Success Club Points and Lifetime Rank Advancements, rewarding its participants with expanding business, increased revenue, and a chance to win awesome prizes.

The prize for champions Fit & Fabulous?

Not only did these “Fab Five” receive a free trip to the City of Angels, but they also got their name inscribed on the legendary Team Beachbody Cup, were granted exclusive, one-on-one time with Beachbody CEO Carl Daikeler, and were taken on a special, behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Tony Horton’s new (and still secret!) workout program.

“When we do the programs, we only get to see the final results—we don’t see all of hard work that goes into it. It’s eye-opening!” exclaimed Claudia when asked about her and her teammates’ experience on Tony Horton’s set.

But they sure know the hard work that goes into being an at-home participant of these programs.

Proof the products work
Living examples of the second vital behavior “Be proof the products work”, these five accomplished Coaches used Beachbody products to get fit and stay healthy—having lost 291 cumulative pounds!

“It’s like our Team lost the weight of two whole people!” giggles Edlyn.

Teammate Mayleen Acosta, Beachbody Challenge winner for January and quarterly Challenge winner, says that her amazing weight loss results definitely helped her bring in business. “People know me, and they’ve seen my transformation. Looking at me gives them reason to trust the products and motivates them to get healthy and win challenges,” she reveals.

In addition to winning awesome prizes and encouraging others to get in shape, Fit & Fabulous said that the prospect of solidifying their business also motivated them to win the Team Beachbody Cup. According to Claudia, “We wanted our business to grow and expand—and it did! We saw our income grow a lot during that month.”

Coaching outside their comfort zones
By constantly challenging each other to push outside their comfort zones, the Team was able to find creative ways to tap into new markets. And they were able to recruit many new people and introduce them to Beachbody.

The Team amassed a collection of financial success stories, including some who paid off student loans and others who had the opportunity to travel with family. But the work doesn’t end there. “We all hope to become Elite Coaches and quit our regular jobs someday,” says Claudia.

“And go to Italy!” chimes in Mayleen.

“Yes! Rule our own business and go to Italy!” Claudia agrees.

Far-fetched goals? Not at all. Especially if you’re one of the winning members of Team Fit & Fabulous. Each time they see their names engraved on that tall, gleaming trophy, it is a constant reminder of what Team Beachbody is all about—and how it can transform people’s lives!

Vanilla Shakeology is Here!

Drink up the exciting news: Vanilla Shakeology® has arrived!

Customers begged for it. Coaches pleaded for it. And now you can finally add the great-tasting vanilla to your lineup of Shakeology favorites.

But to say it didn’t exactly happen overnight would be an understatement. In fact, it took almost two years of meticulous tasting and testing to create a finished product worthy of the name Shakeology.

Many vanilla shakes on the market today use harsh chemical additives and elements, creating a “vanilla-like imitation”. Was Beachbody ready to go down the same road and compromise on quality?

Not a chance.

The gold standard
Determined to create both a delicious and nutritious shake, we tracked down a vanilla bean that met our lofty standards. After all, Chocolate, Greenberry, Chocolate Vegan, and Tropical Strawberry gave Vanilla plenty to live up to.

Pure. Untainted. Flavorful. Ethically sourced. This is one bean that had Shakeology written all over it. So where did we find this highly sought-after super bean?

Deep inside the lush jungles of Madagascar. (An island off the southeastern coast of Africa).

It’s well known that all things vanilla are not created equal. But each and every vanilla bean grown, harvested, and cured in the small farms of Madagascar has been hand-pollinated through a long and elaborate process.

Pretty impressive.

But what’s even greater is that through our purchase of these beans, Beachbody is investing in the building and maintenance of Madagascar schools. This endeavor is helping future generations, currently enhancing the educational resources of more than 3,000 children.

So what about the product, you ask? The research was done. The shake was mixed to perfection. And Vanilla was finally ready for its close up.

The verdict on vanilla
The verdict is in: Say hello to your new vanilla vice!

Unlike most vanilla shakes which get a bad rap for being boring or bland, this delicious creation will have you thirsting for more.

The rich and creamy flavor. The smooth texture. Not to mention the fact that we made it without adding any artificial vanilla flavoring. And loaded with over 70 healthy ingredients from around the world, it’s everything you’ve come to expect from Shakeology.

“V” is for versatility
One thing’s for sure; you’re certain to fall in love with the versatility of this rich and creamy treat. Because vanilla is an easily customizable flavor, you can make it taste like virtually anything you want. “PB & J”. Vanilla Latte”. “Tiramisu”. There’s a wide variety of options to enjoy.

And don’t forget about the versatility vanilla will bring to your business, too. Along with the other Shakeology staples, you can now offer your customers a Vanilla flavor that’s pure, consciously sourced, and, of course, incredibly delicious.

Ready to get your shake on and place a NEW order of Vanilla Shakeology? For the fastest service, place your order online at Shakeology.com or on your MyShakeology.com website.

And if you have an existing monthly autoship account and want to modify your next shipment to include vanilla, just use the online Shakeology Customization form located under “My Account” in your Coach Online Office.

So treat yourself to the new Vanilla Shakeology. Your taste buds – and your business – will thank you!

Diamond Coach Josh Spencer

In many ways Shakeology®  changed former Top Coach and 14 Star Diamond Coach Josh Spencer’s life, and he’ll be the first person to admit he sings the nutritional drink’s praises daily. Not only did it help him and his family (including Grandma!) achieve their weight loss goals—it transformed his business too, and he’s now able to dedicate 100% of his time to Coaching. Did we mention that Josh was also the #2 Shakeology®  seller in the entire USA? So who better to share Shakeology®  sampling systems, selling tips, and the secrets to his success:

Q. What’s your personal ‘Shakeology®  Sampling System?’

A. I’ve had my system in place for 4 years now, and I’ve tweaked it to make sure it’s cost efficient and effective. Here’s the 4 steps I always use when sampling Shakeology®:

  • I only reach out to people that I Coach—people that are interested and serious about purchasing.
  • I buy 5×8 padded envelops in bulk, and I send the sample with a letter taped to it, along with my favorite Shakeology® recipe (CRUCIAL!).
  • I’m also careful to outline the importance of Home Direct and directions on how to order in my letter.
  • I always follow-up two weeks later!

Q. How do you start the sampling conversation with a prospect?

A. Usually by creating “buzz” first, through Facebook posts and other social media. A sense of urgency builds because of the limited samples I send, and it goes quickly—so first come, first served! Facebook traffic is most active, between 8:30AM—11:30AM EST and 5:30PM —10:30PM EST.

Here’s a sample post: “It’s that time again! I’m about to send out another batch of SHAKEOLOGY SAMPLES! If you would like one, you need to “like,” comment below, or message me ASAP! Just a heads up, though, I only have a LIMITED amount and will send them out on a first come first serve basis.”

Q. How do you pre-qualify prospects so they’re a wise investment, before sending samples?

A. Make sure you’re their Coach! You don’t want to send a sample to another Coaches’ customer and have another Coach get credit for that sale. Always double check in the Coach Online Office—I do!

  • It costs me about $8 to send out a Shakeology®  sample, so I make sure they’re serious. My blog explains how my family, friends, people I Coach, and I have gotten results from Shakeology® ; and I insist each person reads that before giving me their address. I don’t ever go into the details of what’s in Shakeology®  in the initial stages!
  • People should purchase based on passion, belief, the products results, and the trust they have with YOU. Be yourself, be real, be honest, people will respect that and listen to your recommendations.

Q. How do you follow up and maintain engagement with a customer (after sampling) until you close the sale?

A. Stay organized or this process will never be effective. I created an Excel spreadsheet that includes these columns:

Name, Email, Address, if they are a customer or not (Y,N), Flavor requested, if I sent out the sample (Y,N), Date Sent Out, Date Followed Up With, and Date Last Contacted.

Usually I wait 2 weeks after sending the sample to reach out and see if my customer received it, if they like it, and when they plan on purchasing. If after 3 follow-ups they don’t purchase, I stop contacting them. So far I’ve had a very high closing rate.

Q. Share your thoughts on the importance of enrolling people in Shakeology®  for ongoing business growth.

A. As a Coach it should be your goal to reach Success Club every month, and sending out Shakeology®  samples are a great way to get SC points. If you enroll people in Home Direct, get them to join one of your Challenge Groups too. The best combination for results is by using Shakeology® and going through a Beachbody program, people who complete the Challenge Groups are great Coach candidates. Also, Shakeology®  HD is a great way to build residual income. You receive a commission every month after the initial purchase, as long as they remain on HD.
